Rapids' Pickens suffers broken arm
Sandy, UT – Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Matt Pickens suffered a broken left arm in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Pickens made his second consecutive start of the season after sitting out the opener against FC Dallas and was injured just four minutes into the match when he leapt to punch a ball out of his penalty area following a corner kick.
The injury occurred when Pickens collided with Real Salt Lake defender Kwame Watson-Siriboe and subsequently fell to the ground in pain.
Clint Irwin made his MLS debut in place of Pickens, becoming the third goalkeeper to suit up for Colorado this season, and helped his team secure their first point of the season.
The Rapids will go for their first victory of the season next Saturday against the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Galaxy.
