Rain washed away Monday's scheduled opening-round action at the WTA event in Nurnberg, Germany.

Four seeds were on Monday's schedule at the inaugural clay-court Nurnberger Versicherungscup tennis event, including No. 3 Alize Cornet and No. 5 Lucie Safarova. Sixth-seeded Lourdes Dominguez Lino and eighth-seeded German Annika Beck also will not take to the courts until Tuesday at Nurnberg Tennis Club.

The top seed this week is former top-ranked star Jelena Jankovic, who reached the quarterfinals at the French Open last week.

The winner of this $235,000 tournament will claim $42,600.
