Paris, France (SportsNetwork.com) - The top two side in Ligue 1 will clash on Sunday as Paris Saint-Germain welcomes Marseille to the Parc des Princes in the first edition of Le Classique.
After getting off to a relatively slow start and developing a trend for conceding late goals, PSG has rounded into form lately to surge up the table into the second place in Ligue 1 with 24 points.
Since a 1-1 draw against Monaco on Oct. 5, PSG has won five straight matches across all competitions, including a 2-1 win over Lorient in league play last Saturday followed by a 1-0 result over APOEL in the Champions League in midweek.
Laurent Blanc's men got off to a quick start against APOEL as it took Edinson Cavani just 57 seconds to find the back of the net when he fired home a cross from Gregory Van der Wiel.
PSG should also have one of their premier players back on the field against Marseille as star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned to training on Thursday. The Sweden international has been out since Sept. 21 after suffering an injury against Lyon.
Marseille enters the match with a four-point advantage in the standings and coming off a much-needed 2-1 win over Lens at the Stade Velodrome last time out to snap a two-match slide across all competitions.
Nicolas N'Koulou opened the scoring for Marseille after 10 minutes, but Baptiste Guillaume pulled back an equalizer for Lens in the 31st minute to send the clubs into the intermission on level terms.
The home side found the winner on the hour mark when Florian Thauvin fired home off a nice assist from Andre-Pierre Gignac.
The sides have met 84 times across all competitions with each club winning 32 times to go with 20 draws. At the Parc des Princes, the teams have played 43 times with PSG winning 22 times.
PSG is also unbeaten in its last seven matches against Marseille across all competitions, while Marseille have lost their last six games at the Parc des Princes.
Also in Ligue 1 on Sunday, Lyon welcomes Guingamp to the Stade de Gerland, while Reims tangles with Lille at the Stade Auguste Delaune II. Sunday's final clash sees Saint Etienne host Monaco at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
On Saturday, Lens welcomes Bordeaux to the Stade Felix Bollaert, while Bastia battles Montpellier at the Stade Armand-Cesari. Caen tangles with Nantes at the Stade Michel d'Ornano, while Evian battles Nice at the Parc des Sports.
Saturday's final fixture sees Toulouse welcome Metz to the Stade Municipal de Toulouse.
On Friday, Pedro Henrique scored in the 89th minute to lift Rennes to a 1-0 win over Lorient.
