Wilmington, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - The University of North Carolina Wilmington fired head men's basketball coach Buzz Peterson on Tuesday.

Peterson was let go after his fourth year on the job ended with a subpar 9-23 record, the worst mark during his stint. The Seahawks went 42-82 with Peterson at the helm, including a 30-53 record in Colonial Athletic Association play.

"For the great fans of Seahawk basketball, I am sorry that we could not deliver the results that you deserve," Peterson said in a released statement.

Athletic director Jimmy Bass appointed assistant Eddie Biedenbach as interim head coach as the search for a permanent replacement commences.

Peterson has also coached at Appalachian State, Tulsa, Tennessee and Coastal Carolina.
