Norwich City signed Scotland defender Steven Whittaker from Rangers on Saturday.

The 28-year-old Whittaker did not transfer his contract with retooled Rangers, and has joined the English Premier League club after five years at Ibrox.

"In Steven we have a player who is very versatile, he can play anywhere across the back four and anywhere across midfield, so there's plenty of versatility there," Norwich manager Chris Hughton said.

Whittaker has played 15 times for Scotland.

"All of my experience to date has been in Scotland," Whittaker said, "so I'm really looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Premier League, I'm very excited about it."
