Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Kam Williams scored 15 points to lead No. 20 Ohio State to a 74-63 victory over Marquette on Tuesday.
Amir Williams made all six of his shots for 12 points, Sam Thompson and Marc Loving each netted 10 and Shannon Scott had 14 assists to go along with eight points for the Buckeyes (2-0), who cruised to a 92-55 over UMass-Lowell in their season opener on Friday.
"We wanted to make sure that we got the shots we wanted as opposed to the ones they wanted to take," Ohio State head coach Thad Matta said. "I thought we did a much better job of passing around the defense in the second half as opposed to handing it to them in the first half."
Steve Taylor Jr. led all scorers with 20 points and Matt Carlino chipped in 10 for the Golden Eagles (1-1), who were coming off a 79-63 win against UT- Martin.
"I thought our transition defense was not near where it needed to be," Marquette head coach Steve Wojciechowski said. "They got a lot of easy baskets in transition and open shots."
Thompson and Kam Williams each netted 3-pointers off assists from D'Angelo Russell for a 16-9 lead 6:40 into the game. Another trey from Williams ignited a 12-4 run that resulted in a 31-19 Ohio State lead with under five minutes to play in the first half.
The Buckeyes took a 33-26 advantage into the break and pulled away by shooting a scorching 70.4 percent (19-of-27) from the field in the second half.
