Kitzbuhel, Austria – Rain was the big winner Wednesday at the Kitzbuhel Cup as much of the day's action was postponed or suspended, but a trio of second-round matches were completed and second-seeded Florian Mayer of Germany was among the losers.
Italy's Simone Bolelli knocked off the Wimbledon quarterfinalist on Wednesday with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory. He'll next face fifth-seeded Martin Klizan, as the Slovakian was also able to complete his second-round match and posted a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over countrymate Pavol Cervenak.
The only other completed match saw Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic claim a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 win over Croatian qualifier Antonio Veic. Rosol, who provided the biggest upset at Wimbledon this year with a second-round victory over Rafael Nadal, will next meet the winner between top-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany and Hungarian qualifier Attila Balazs.
Kohlschreiber was probably thankful for the wet weather after Balazs won the first three games of their second-round match before play was halted.
Weather permitting, the second round will resume Thursday with quarterfinal action to follow.
