Maple Leafs sign G Scrivens to two-year deal

Toronto, ON – The Toronto Maple Leafs added depth between the pipes Wednesday, signing goaltender Ben Scrivens to a two-year contract.

Scrivens, 26, who originally signed with the Maple Leafs as a free agent in 2010, split time last season playing for the Leafs and the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

In his NHL debut last year -- a 4-1 victory over Columbus on Nov. 3 -- Scrivens recorded 38 saves and logged his first NHL win. He went on to play 12 games for the Leafs in 2011-2012, going 4-5-2 with a 3.13 goals against average and a .903 save percentage.

With the Marlies, Scrivens was considered one of the league's top goaltenders, winning the AHL Harry Hap Holmes Memorial Award as the goaltender with at least 25 games played on the team that allowed the fewest regular-season goals. He went 22-15-1 in 39 regular season games, recording four shutouts, an AHL-best 2.04 GAA and a .926 save percentage.

In the Calder Cup playoffs, Scrivens played in all 17 games for the Marlies, recording three shutouts, a 1.92 GAA and a .935 save percentage.
