Frankfurt, Germany – Mario Mandzukic netted the only goal of the contest on Saturday as defending champions Bayern Munich topped Eintracht Frankfurt by a 1-0 score at the Commerzbank Arena.
Coming off a comfortable 3-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in their opener last weekend, the Bavarians made it two wins from two fixtures through Mandzukic's goal in the 13th minute of play.
The European champions asserted their strength from the outset, controlling 70 percent of possession and firing seven shots on target and found the breakthrough when Mandzukic turned in a cross from Thomas Muller.
The result lifts Bayern to the top of the Bundesliga table, while Eintracht has two losses in its first two matches and has conceded seven goals while scoring just one.
Hoffenheim 5, Hamburg 1
Hamburg, Germany - Hoffenheim cruised to its first win of the young season on Saturday after posting a 5-1 rout of Hamburg at the Imtech Arena.
The visitors started quickly as Roberto Firmino found the back of the net just five minutes into the match. Hoffenheim held the lead until Rafael Van der Vaart equalized for Hamburg in the 44th and the sides went into the break level.
Hoffenheim seized control of the match in the second half, taking the lead back in the 50th minute through a goal by Kevin Volland. Anthony Modeste scored in the 67th and 74th minutes to widen the lead to 4-1 for the road side.
Firmino completed his brace with a goal 13 minutes from time as Hoffenheim collected the three points with ease.
Mainz 2, Freiburg 1
Freiburg, Germany - Mainz earned its second consecutive victory on Saturday after coming away with a 2-1 result over Freiburg at the Mage Solar Stadion.
Coming off a 3-2 win over Stuttgart last week, Mainz held its own on the road and found the first goal of the game in the 64th minute when Niki Zimling found the back of the net.
Four minutes later, Mainz doubled its lead through Nicolai Muller's third goal of the young season.
Sebastian Freis pulled one back for Freiburg in the 71st minute, but it wasn't enough as Mainz held on to claim all three points.
Bayer Leverkusen 1, Stuttgart 0
Stuttgart, Germany - Bayer Leverkusen snuck away from the Mercedes Benz Arena with a 1-0 victory over Stuttgart on Saturday to claim its second three-point effort of the season.
Both clubs had ample opportunities to score as each club managed three shots on target, but it was Leverkusen that took the lead for good in the 42nd minute when Stuttgart defender had a shot deflect off him and wind up in the net for the own goal.
The result leaves Stuttgart winless through its first two matches this season.
Wolfsburg 4, Schalke 0
Wolfsburg, Germany - Four different players found the back of the net for Wolfsburg on Saturday as the club rolled to a 4-0 rout of Schalke at the Volkswagen Arena.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes, Wolfsburg began its offensive assault in the 55th minute with a goal from Robin Knoche. Seven minutes later Vieirinha scored and Naldo made it three for the hosts in the 67th minute.
Stefan Kutschke added the final tally of the afternoon as Wolfsburg rebounded nicely following a 2-0 loss to Hannover last week. Schalke, meanwhile, remains winless early in the campaign after a 3-3 draw with Hamburg.
Werder Bremen 1, Augsburg 0
Bremen, Germany - Mehmet Ekici scored the winning goal as Werder Bremen earned a 1-0 result over Augsburg on Saturday at the Weserstadion.
Coming off a 1-0 result against Eintracht last week, Bremen did not create much offensively as they put five attempts in the direction of goal and only two were on target.
But Werder Bremen found the breakthrough 22 minutes in when Sebastian Prodl provided a nice pass and Ekici smashed it home from distance to give his club the lead.
Augsburg pushed for an equalizer, but it never came and Bremen came away with all three points.
Monchengladbach 3, Hannover 0
Monchengladbach, Germany - Borussia Monchengladbach rebounded from a loss to Bayern Munich last week in style on Saturday, posting a comfortable 3-0 result over Hannover at Borussia Park.
The hosts got off the mark quickly as Max Kruse found the back of the net in the 20th minute and Monchengladbach took the slim lead into the intermission.
In the second 45 minutes, 'Gladbach upped the pressure and earned a second goal through Christoph Kramer in the 53rd minute.
Hannover pushed to get back into the game, but the home side finished the result in the 66th minute as Filip Daems converted a spot kick to make it an insurmountable three-goal margin.
