Lehman moves 1 clear at Pebble Beach

Pebble Beach, CA – Tom Lehman posted his second 5-under 67 in as many days Saturday and moved one stroke clear of the field after two rounds of the First Tee Open.

Lehman, who tied for third at this event in 2009, finished 36 holes at 10- under-par 134. He will go for his eighth Champions Tour title on Sunday.

Russ Cochran also carded a 67 in round two to finish two days at minus-9. He is alone in second place, while first-round leader Bernhard Langer (74) and defending champion Kirk Triplett (70) are tied for third at 7-under 137.

Seven of the top eight players on the leaderboard played at Pebble Beach on Saturday. Chien Soon Lu carded a 67 at Del Monte to move into a share of fifth at minus-6.

Lu was joined there by John Cook (68), Dan Forsman (70) and Doug Garwood (71).

After splitting the first 36 holes on the two courses, the final round will be contested at Pebble Beach.

Lehman played the front nine first on Saturday and birdied both par-5s, Nos. 2 and 6. He moved to minus-8 with a birdie on the ninth.

Around the turn, Lehman flew into the lead with three straight birdies from the 11th. He stumbled to a bogey on the 14th and another at the 17th to fall into a share of the lead with Cochran.

Lehman birdied the par-5 closing hole from the fringe to gain the 36-hole lead.

Cochran started on the back nine at Pebble Beach and parred his first six holes. He converted back-to-back birdie chances at 16 and 17. On the front side, he also birdied the two par-5s to get to 8-under.

At the par-3 seventh, Cochran made his second straight birdie. He closed with a pair of pars to end one back.

Langer, who tied for 10th in 2007 in his only previous appearance at this event, drove into a bush on the par-5 second. After chipping out, he later flew the green with his approach. That led to a double-bogey, which dropped him out of the lead at minus-7.

The German parred seven in a row from the third. He got one stroke back with a short birdie putt at par-4 10th. He stumbled to bogeys at 14 and 17 before closing with a birdie to end three behind.

NOTES: Lehman has won three of the previous four times he has been the leader entering the final round ... Second-round leaders have won five of the last six Champions Tour events, but just 10 of 20 for the year ... Cochran and Cook had the only two bogey-free rounds on Saturday.
