Top lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov's team believed that he re-injured his surgically-repaired knee after attempting a comeback too soon. So, the second time around, they are taking no chances with the blue-chipper's rehabilitation.

UFC Tonight reports that the Dagestani sensation was examined by his doctor last week and afterwards the decision was made that he should take things slow and complete six more weeks of physical therapy. Khabib had originally targeted an October return to competition.

With the expanded rehabilitation program, his new goal is to return to action in December, instead. Nurmagomedov last fought in April 2014.

In that fight, he beat current lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. The wrestler is undefeated over 22 professional fights and is expected to jump right back into title contention upon his return to the Octagon.
