Anaheim, CA – The Cleveland Indians reinstated right-handed pitcher Roberto Hernandez, formerly known as Fausto Carmona, on Tuesday and is scheduled to make his season debut Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Hernandez has missed most of the season after visa issues prevented him from entering the United States. He was arrested on January 19 in his native Dominican Republic on charges of double identity.
Hernandez, 31, who was found to be three years older than originally thought, has been a mainstay in the Indians' rotation for each of the last five years. In 32 starts last season, Hernandez went 7-15 with a 5.25 earned run average.
His career record is 53-66 with a 4.59 ERA.
Also Tuesday, the Indians placed pitcher Josh Tomlin on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 13, with right elbow inflammation.
The 27-year-old has gone 5-9 with a 6.36 ERA in 21 games -- 16 starts -- this season.
