George Valentine had 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead Winthrop to a 77-49 victory over High Point on Saturday night.

Valentine was 6 for 7 from the field to lead the Eagles (9-10, 5-4 Big South Conference), who shot 60.4 percent from the floor (29 of 48). They shot better from the field than from the free-throw line (57 percent, 16 of 28).

Winthrop never trailed, took a 36-21 advantage into halftime and built a 28-point lead with 4:42 remaining in the game.

Thirteen players saw action for the Eagles, whose 13 steals helped account for most of High Point's 20 turnovers.

Andre Jones scored 11 points and Reggie Middleton and Charles Corbin added 10 points each for Winthrop.

Shay Shine, who scored 27 points in a win over Presbyterian on Thursday, had 13 and nine rebounds for High Point (6-12, 3-6), which has lost nine of 10. Du'Vaughn Maxwell added 10 points.
