Birmingham, England – Aston Villa announced on Wednesday that year contract.
Herd had 18 months remaining on his current deal but the Australia Under-20 international is now tied to Villa until 2015.
The 22-year-old has found his way into the first team after switching from right back to midfield and he has made eight starts in the Premiership this season for Villa, which sits in 10th place in the league.
