BROOKLINE, Mass. – Nick Hardy shot a 5-under-par 65 to take an early lead at the U.S. Amateur on Monday.
But he still has to play a round at The Country Club, the more difficult of the two courses hosting this year's tournament.
England's Neil Raymond shot 3-under at the par-70, 7,310-yard Country Club. The event is being held in Brookline, Mass., to help commemorate the 100th anniversary of Francis Ouimet's landmark victory in the 1913 U.S. Open at The Country Club.
The event consists of two days of stroke play followed by six rounds of match play. Half of the 312 golfers played the first round at each course, and they'll switch places on Tuesday.
