Washington, DC – Fourth-seeded German Tommy Haas defeated top-seeded American Mardy Fish in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, in the semifinals of the $1 million Citi Open tennis event on Saturday.
Haas won 67 percent of his second-serve points and won two of three break points in the match, which lasted 93 minutes.
The 34-year-old Haas reached the semis after dominating compatriot Tobias Kamke 6-1, 6-2 Friday night. He stunned Wimbledon champion Roger Federer in a final in Haas' native Germany in June and has won 14 of his last 17 matches on tour.
Haas, who improved to 4-1 against Fish, has won six of his last seven matches against top-15 players.
The other semi, which will take place later on Saturday, will pit second- seeded Alexandr Dolgopolov of the Ukraine against eighth-seeded American Sam Querrey.
Dolgopolov took down American James Blake, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, while Querrey defeated third-seeded Kevin Anderson of South Africa, 6-4, 6-4, on Friday.
The 2012 D.C. champion will collect $252,600.
