East Rutherford, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - New York Giants linebacker Jon Beason will have surgery to repair a toe injury and will miss the rest of the season.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin confirmed the news on Monday.
The injury has troubled Beason since the offseason. He tore a ligament and fractured the sesamoid bone in his toe during an OTA workout in June and missed all of training camp and the preseason.
Beason played in the first two games of the season before re-injuring the toe and sat out the next three games. He was active in Weeks 6 and 7, but the injury slowed his performance.
The 29-year-old veteran visited a foot specialist during the club's bye week.
