East Rutherford, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Giants announced that head coach Tom Coughlin's contract has been extended by one year through the 2016 season.

Coughlin, the second-longest tenured head coach in team history, is entering his 12th season with New York. Behind New England's Bill Belichick and Cincinnati's Marvin Lewis, Coughlin's tenure with the Giants is the third- longest among active coaches.

The Giants are coming off back-to-back losing seasons, but Coughlin owns a 96-80 regular season-record and two Super Bowl wins with New York.

Coughlin started his head coaching career with the expansion Jacksonville Jaguars, going 68-60 in the regular season and reaching the playoffs four times from 1995-2002.
