Furman has added Big South programs Gardner-Webb and Coastal Carolina to its 2013 and 2014 football schedules, director of athletics Gary Clark announced Wednesday.

Furman, from the Southern Conference, will begin the 2013 season on Aug. 31 at Gardner-Webb and visit Coastal Carolina on Sept. 7.

In 2014, Furman will host Gardner-Webb in its season opener on Aug. 30 and Coastal Carolina on Oct. 4.

The NCAA is allowing FCS programs to play 12 games, instead of the usual 11, during the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Furman is 3-0 all-time against Gardner-Webb, but has lost three of four meetings against Coastal Carolina.

Furman added the games against Gardner-Webb and Coastal Carolina after it was forced to drop originally scheduled series against both Old Dominion and Charlotte, which are in the process of moving to the FBS.
