Borussia Dortmund's Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa tore a ligament in his left ankle in training and will be out at least two weeks, the Bundesliga club announced Thursday.

The 22-year-old was injured in training Wednesday, and Dortmund has ruled him out of this weekend's game at Hertha Berlin and the following week's home game against Hannover.

Kagawa has seven goals and six assists this season for Dortmund, which is the defending champion and currently sits atop the standings. The club expects to have him available to face Mainz on March 3.

Dortmund was already without 19-year-old German midfielder Mario Gotze because of a groin injury, and now must face a short spell without both playmakers.

Borussia Dortmund is undefeated in 15 straight league matches and leads Bayern Munich by two points in the table.
