Mexico City, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) - Christian Gimenez scored 10 minutes from time on Saturday to lift Cruz Azul to a 1-0 victory over Toluca at the Estadio Azul, keeping the side unbeaten in league play.

After drawing their Clausura opener with Monterrey back on Jan. 4, Cruz Azul have been in impeccable form, riding an eight-match winning streak while conceding just three goals.

Saturday's clash with Toluca proved to be a bit more challenging as the visiting side had the better of possession and more attempts on goal

But the hosts finally found a breakthrough with some set piece magic in the 80th minute as Rogelio Chavez lofted a free kick into the penalty area where Gimenez rose highest to nod it past Toluca goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera.

The traveling side was ultimately unable to find an equalizer and suffered defeat for the second time this season, while Cruz Azul extends its lead atop the Clausura table to six points over Toluca.

Also in Mexico on Saturday, Cristian Pellerano opened the scoring six minutes in for Tijuana, but was sent off in the 79th minute which allowed Liber Quinones to score the tying goal two minutes later for Veracruz as the sides played to a 1-1 draw.

Erik Pimentel and Rubens Sambueza scored on either side of the intermission to hand America a 2-1 win over Monterrey, while Elias Hernandez, Miguel Sabah and Mauro Boselli all netted first-half tallies to lead Leon to a comfortable 3-0 rout of Jaguares.

On Sunday, U.S. international DaMarcus Beasley scored in the 52nd minute to lift Puebla to a 1-0 result over Queretaro, while UNAM and Pachuca played to a scoreless draw, as did Guadalajara and Tigres.

Friday's action saw Roberto Diaz and Michael Mina scored second-half goals in a 2-1 Atlante win over Morelia, while Rodrigo Millar netted a brace to go with a goal from Maikon Leite as Atlas held on for a 3-2 victory over Santos.
