New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Columbus Crew forward Federico Higuain was named the Player of the Week on Monday for Week 11 of the 2014 Major League Soccer season.
Higuain netted a pair of goals on Saturday to help the Crew earn a valuable road point in a thrilling 3-3 draw with the Portland Timbers at Providence Park.
The Argentina native opened the scoring for the Crew in the 14th minute with a stellar chipped effort that kissed the under side of the crossbar and dropped in behind Timbers goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts.
In the 5th minute of first half stoppage time, Higuain calmly converted a penalty kick, after defender Giancarlo Gonzalez was fouled in the box, to give the Crew 2-1 lead at halftime.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North America Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
