Madrid, Spain – Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa signed a three-year contract extension with the La Liga club on Wednesday, keeping him with the side until 2018.
The Brazilian netted 20 goals last season, helping Los Rojiblancos finish third in La Liga and claim a Copa del Rey title over neighbors Real Madrid.
His performance last season attracted the attention over several other European clubs, including Premier League giants Liverpool, who reportedly tried to activate the buyout clause in his contract with a bid in the 24.5 million Euro range
But Costa chose to extend his deal with Atletico and insisted he is happy with the Spanish club.
"I am very happy with this deal after fighting for a long time to win the affection of the fans, my teammates and people inside the club," he told the club's website. "It is a very special moment and I am very happy here."
