Brewers claim Ransom from Arizona

Milwaukee, WI – The Milwaukee Brewers claimed third baseman Cody Ransom off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Arizona designated the 32-year-old Ransom for assignment on Monday. He is batting .269 with four home runs and 13 RBI over 17 games this season.

A 10-year veteran, he is a .226 hitter with 14 home runs and 56 RBI over 248 games with San Francisco, Houston, the New York Yankees, Philadelphia and Arizona.

To make room on the roster, the team transferred shortstop Alex Gonzalez from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list and optioned shortstop Edwin Maysonet to Triple-A Nashville.
