The Chicago Bears waived five players on Monday, including linebacker/defensive end Vernon Gholston.

Gholston was cut by the Jets in March following three disappointing seasons with the team.

The No. 6 overall pick in 2008, Gholston started only five games for the Jets, including two in 2010. He had 42 total tackles and no sacks in 45 games with New York.

Center J.C. Brignone, linebacker Tanner Antle, defensive tackle Tank Tyler and quarterback Trevor Vittatoe were also released by Chicago.
