The Chicago Bears began the process of trimming their roster to the required 53 by releasing 14 players on Friday, including former Canadian Football League star receiver Andy Fantuz.

Fantuz, last year's Most Outstanding Canadian with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, had signed a reserve/future contract with the Bears last winter. He had two catches during the preseason.

Others cut on Friday included guard Johan Asiata, fullback Eddie Williams, wide receiver Onrea Jones, and linebacker Chris Johnson. Nine undrafted rookies were also released, including linebackers Tressor Baptiste and Deron Minor, cornerbacks Antareis Bryan and Ryan Jones, tackle Josh Davis, punter Spencer Lanning, defensive end Jake Laptad, center Alex Linnenkohl and receiver Jimmy Young.
