MADRID – Juan Valera, Diego Forlan and Jose Antonio Reyes scored to lead Atletico Madrid over visiting Mallorca 3-0 Monday night and into a Europa League position at the midpoint of the La Liga season.
Atletico goalkeeper David de Gea saved Pierre Webo's penalty kick in the 70th minute. Atletico played the game without injured forward Sergio Aguero and was facing a Mallorca team that won at Sevilla and Valencia, and earned a rare point at Barcelona.
Atletico (9-7-3) moved into sixth place with 30 points, 22 behind first-place Barcelona. Mallorca (8-8-3) is ninth with 27.
