Atletico hammers Sociedad as Falcao nets hat trick
San Sebastian, Spain – Radamel Falcao played a big role in game unbeaten streak on Saturday as the Atletico 0 win for his side.
Falcao scored from the penalty spot after three minutes, and after a goal from Adrian put Atletico up 2-0 early in the second half, the Colombian scored twice in the final eight minutes to seal his team's second successive win.
Sociedad's good run of form saw the club move three points clear of the drop zone, but things started out poorly as Atletico was awarded a penalty kick after just three minutes.
Diego's attempted cross in the opening minutes struck the hand of Sociedad's Vadim Demidov inside the area, allowing Falcao to send goalkeeper Claudio Bravo the wrong way from the penalty spot.
The lead grew to 2-0 early in the second half when Juanfran's cross was turned on goal by Adrian, whose initial effort was saved by Bravo but finished off at the second attempt.
Falcao killed off the match in the 83rd minute with a nicely placed chip from 25 yards before completing his hat trick in stoppage time after being set up by Jorge Koke.
Espanyol 3, Granada 0
Barcelona, Spain - Espanyol jumped to fifth in La Liga on Saturday following a 3-0 home defeat of Granada, which extends the club's unbeaten streak to five games.
The home side had drawn its last two matches in the league but took the lead midway through the opening half through Raul Baena.
A successful penalty kick from Verdu just before halftime doubled Espanyol's advantage, and although Granada was more of a threat in the second half, the visitors still conceded another goal 10 minutes from time as Rui Fonte fired home a rebound from Ndri Romaric's free kick.
Granada remains only one point above the drop zone after losing for the fourth time in five games.
Getafe 2, Racing 1
Santander, Spain - Racing saw its five-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Saturday as a goal from Miku seven minutes from time handed Getafe a 2-1 comeback win.
Racing was gifted the lead in the 14th minute when a terrible pass from Getafe's Rafa Lopez was intercepted and finished off by Christian Stuani.
However, Jaime Gavilan's volley midway through the opening half leveled the score before Miku claimed all three points for his side by beating a defender and chipping the ball over the head of goalkeeper Tono Ramirez.
Getafe moves into 11th place having won three of its last five.
Real Betis 1, Sevilla 1
Seville, Spain - Sevilla held on for a 1-1 draw against Real Betis on Saturday despite playing the final 20 minutes of the match with 10 men.
Benat scored midway through the first half on a free kick to give Betis the lead, only for Sevilla's Alvaro Negredo to cancel out the tally five minutes before halftime with a header.
Sevilla had to play the final 20 minutes down a man as Federico Fazio received his second yellow card, and although Betis went on the attack and had a handful of opportunities to win the game, the home side was unable to find the back of the net and remains in 12th place.
