St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Oakland Athletics have added former Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington to their coaching staff.

Washington will join the club on Friday as it continues its series with the Rays in Florida. He is not eligible to be on the bench during games.

The 63-year-old Washington resigned as manager of the Rangers last September with 22 games remaining in the season. He compiled a 664-611 record in nearly eight full years as Texas' manager and guided the team to back-to-back World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011.

Washington spent 11 seasons as a coach with the A's from 1996-2006.
