Top seed and defending champion Nicolas Almagro outlasted Italian veteran Filippo Volandri in Sunday's final at the $475,300 Brasil Open.

The Spanish Almagro needed two hours to emerge with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory and his third title at this event. He also won the crown in Costa do Sauipe in 2008.

Almagro hit 18 aces past the 30-year-old Volandri, who appeared in his first final since October 1, 2006, when he captured his second title in Palermo.

The 26-year-old Almagro claimed the 11th title of his career, while improving to 7-3 lifetime against Volandri.
