A.J. Allmendinger has signed a five-year contract extension to drive for JTG Daugherty in NASCAR's Sprint Cup series through the 2020 season.

The new contract comes just over a week after Kroger announced it will increase its primary sponsorship of the team from half of the season to two-thirds of the 36-race schedule. That deal means that the No. 47 car is almost fully sponsored through the 2017 season.

Allmendinger said it was a "no brainer" to sign an extension with the single-car team, which he joined two years ago. Allmendinger ran in nine races for JTG Daugherty in 2013 before running a full season a year ago, winning at Watkins Glenn to earn a berth in the Chase.

Allmendinger has two top-10s this season.
