Obama Reelection Camp on Track to Raise $200M in 2011

As the Republican presidential primary season kicks off, the Obama campaign is hoping it will be able to report it raised $60 million in the fourth quarter of this year, a Democratic official told Fox News on Saturday evening.

If it makes that goal, together, the Obama's campaign and the Democratic National Committee will have surpassed the $200 million goal for 2011.

Overall, the campaign seeks to raise more than $750 million to boost Obama's bid for a second term in the White House, the Democratic official said.

The president is currently in Hawaii with his family to enjoy the holiday season, and as such the official said he is not expected to attend any fundraising events between now and the end of the year.

According to Reuters, Obama headlined 15 campaign fundraising events in the fourth quarter. Democratic officials told the news service that Obama would have surpassed the $70 million he earned in the third quarter had debt ceiling talks this summer not interrupted his schedule.

Democrats raised $86 million for the president's reelection in the second quarter this year, after getting started in April.

"Enthusiasm for the White House's policies has been steadily increasing and it will keep increasing," Steven Cohen, a major contributor and campaign fundraiser based in Chicago, told Reuters.
