Rob Reiner still wanted to make movies and 'create things,' son Jake said in April

Jake Reiner admitted there was never a shortage of happiness growing up as the son of Rob Reiner and grandson of Carl Reiner.

"Of course it was like, a great time, you know, listening to stories and just tons of laughter," Jake said in an April interview on the Unsavory Fellow Podcast.

"Going over to my grandfather's house, you know, Mel Brooks would be over there," he said before reflecting on the "incredible dinners" he experienced.

"I think, honestly now that I'm in my 30s, like, I'm beginning to appreciate it a lot more now than I did when I was a kid," Jake said.

"It was a great environment to grow up, and great role models to look after. The way my dad revered my grandfather, you know he would always want to come to the set of 'The Dick Van Dyke Show.' He always wanted to be there, he always wanted to kind of learn what my grandfather - his father - was doing, and then kind of follow it in his footsteps."

Jake admitted, "I look to my dad in the way he works and his work ethic, and he's getting up there in age, but he's still wanting to make movies. He's still wanting to create things ... because he just loves it. I've developed that passion. I developed that work ethic and that's all I want to do."

The Houston Police Union paid respect to Rob Reiner Monday and shared support for Jake, who worked as a reporter in the Texas city.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Jake Reiner and his family during this incredibly difficult time," the statement shared on social media read. Jake previously worked for a local Houston news station from January 2016 until August 2018.

"During his years as a Houston news anchor (KPRC2), Jake was a true friend to the men and women of the Houston Police Department," the statement continued. "He treated our officers with fairness, professionalism, and respect, and he consistently gave law enforcement a voice when it mattered. We are grateful for the way he supported this profession and this city, and we stand with him and his family now."

Jake's brother, Nick Reiner, was arrested on suspicion of murder after Rob and his wife Michele were found dead Sunday.

Nick Reiner recalled 'destroying' parents' guest house during meth binge years before murder arrest

Rob and Michele Reiner’s son Nick previously spoke about a time he “destroyed” his parent’s home eight years ago while strung out on meth.

In 2018, Nick was a guest on the “Dopey” podcast and admitted to being "totally spun out on uppers" before trashing the guest house.

One of the hosts brought up the incident when he "got sequestered in his parents' guest house" and "wrecked the guest house on meth."

“Yeah, I went 10 rounds in my guest house,” Nick replied.

Nick continued at the time, “It’s not much of a story. I got totally spun out on uppers — I think it was coke and something else — and I was up for days on end. I started punching out different things in my guest house.” He said that he "started with the TV and then I went over to the lamp.”

Eventually, "everything in the guest house got wrecked,” according to Nick. He said he had no recollection of whether he hurt himself or not.

At the time, Nick noted that there was "no logic" to his actions. Nick did say that his parents "told me I had to go” before he wrecked the guest house.

According to People, Nick struggled with drug problems throughout his teenage years and was in-and-out of rehab until he was 19.

Nick was arrested for the murder of his parents, Rob and Michele, on Monday.
