Hank Azaria is no stranger to playing characters clouded with controversy.

"The Simpsons" star came under fire last year for being the voice of character Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, and he responded to criticism by saying he would "listen to South Asian people." But after Wednesday's episode of IFC's "Brockmire," Azaria might have to apologize to Christians and Jews offended by his new character, NewsBusters reported.

JOAQUIN PHOENIX IS PLAYING JESUS IN NEW FILM BUT REFUSED TO DO ONE THING: 'WHO THE F--- WOULD DO THAT?'

The comedy show is about a baseball announcer, Jim Brockmire, played by Azaria, going through a midlife crisis. The main character prays to God for the first time as he seeks to complete an AA program.

His sponsor, Shirley, played by Martha Plimpton, suggests going to church, but Brockmire calls the Catholic church the "real life Slytherin," and says, "at least with Mormons you get magic underwear and your own planet."

When his co-worker Gabby, played by Tawny Newsome, brings him to a church, he expresses disappointment that he isn't going to a black church where there would be "great music and some pretty impressive hats."

After he brings up the Holocaust, the two storm out of the church early.

"Why did you bring up the Holocaust?" Gabby asked.

"Well, the priest is the one who brought up a benevolent God. I thought that called for a rebuttal witness," Brockmire replied.

"No, you called Jesus the Mayor of Auschwitz," she said.

"All right, Sky Daddy, let's do this thing...Oh, my God. I feel something. Oh, it's like a pressure deep down inside of me. Oh, s---. I just have to pee."

Reps for Azaria and the show did not return Fox News' request for comment.
