A Yemeni official says a suicide car bombing outside the security headquarters building in a southern port city has killed two guards.

The police official says the bombing took place early on Tuesday morning in the city of Aden, in the upscale Khormaksar neighborhood.

He says the blast also wounded six people, destroyed much of the security headquarters, blew out doors and shattered windows on two hotels and several nearby buildings.

The Interior Ministry said two suspects were arrested.

Jazim al-Sulwi, an Aden resident, told The Associated Press that the explosion was very powerful and that afterward, guards started firing indiscriminately as some people ran out of the hotels and their homes into the street.

The police official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.
