Somalia Militants Vow Guerrilla Strategy

MOGADISHU, Somalia -- A leader from the Somali militant group al-Shabab says the group will pursue a guerrilla strategy like that seen in Afghanistan after their withdrawal from the capital for lack of firepower.

Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys told an al-Shabab radio station Friday that fighting the superior firepower of African Union peacekeepers was "inappropriate." He noted that al-Shabab does not have tanks like the AU does.

Al-Shabab withdrew from Mogadishu last weekend, though sporadic fighting has taken place in recent days.

Aweys also admitted that there was infighting inside al-Shabab over a memorial service held after the death of Osama bin Laden. Aweys said the service did not need to happen.
