Egyptian state television says a military helicopter has crashed in an oasis province southwest of Cairo, killing six and wounding one.

It said Sunday's crash in Fayoum was caused by a technical malfunction and that Defense Minister Gen. Sedki Sobhi has ordered an investigation into the incident.

The crash followed the death earlier on Sunday of two senior policemen in a central Cairo blast that also wounded several other policemen.

The blast was caused by a roadside bomb and appeared to be part of a violent campaign by Islamic militants since last year's ouster of President Mohammed Morsi. The campaign has mostly targeted security forces, first in the Sinai Peninsula, but more recently in the capital, the Nile Delta and remote areas such as the western desert.
