Police say a bomb has exploded near a minority Shiite mosque in northwest Pakistan, killing two people and wounding six others.

Police spokesman Fazal Naeem Khan says the attack Thursday took place in Kacha Pakka village in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Sunni militants have stepped up attacks against Shiites in Pakistan in recent years because they view them as heretics.

Human rights activists and members of the Shiite community have criticized the government for not doing enough to stop the attacks.
