GUATEMALA CITY – Guatemalan prison authorities say former dictator Efrain Rios Montt has been taken to a military hospital after fainting while on his way to a court hearing Monday.
Prison system spokesman Rudy Esquivel says it will be up to a judge to decide when Rios Montt goes back to the Matamoros prison.
Rios Montt was sent to prison Friday after receiving an 80-year sentence for genocide and crimes against humanity.
Defense lawyer Francisco Garcia Gudiel says the 86-year-old former general hasn't been feeling well since Sunday.
