SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – Haiti and the Dominican Republic have once again postponed a meeting aimed at resolving concerns surrounding a court decision that could leave thousands of Haitian Dominicans stateless.
Both governments were supposed to meet on Thursday in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince with international observers. Officials did not provide a reason but said it was a mutual decision.
The two countries that share the Caribbean island of Hispaniola already have met twice to talk about the court ruling and other issues, including the repatriations of hundreds of Haitians and Dominicans of Haitian descent.
Both governments had stopped talking to each other after Caribbean leaders became the latest international group to condemn the court ruling. Each had also pulled its ambassador from the other's country.
