Canada's government introduces cyberbullying law

OTTAWA, Ontario – Canada's government is introducing legislation that would crack down on cyberbullying by making it illegal to distribute intimate images without consent.

Justice Minister Peter MacKay said Wednesday that cyberbullying can destroy lives.

If passed, the legislation also would empower courts to seize computers, cellphones and other devices and provide for reimbursement of costs related to removing the images from the Internet.

MacKay says Canadians have been touched by the deaths of a number of teens.

The issue emerged last year after the suicide of Amanda Todd. The teen made a video about bullying and cyber-stalking that went viral.
