LONDON -- Scottish emergency services say three people have died in a gas explosion at an apartment complex in Edinburgh.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said Wednesday that three people had died and one person was injured in the blast.

Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade said it had four fire engines at the scene to deal with the incident.

The blast occurred in an apartment complex in the southwestern area of Edinburgh, about 400 miles north of London.

Gas engineers are investigating the cause of the blast at the scene.
