Market indexes move solidly higher, led by gains in energy stocks including Exxon Mobil

U.S. stocks are moving higher in midday trading, led by gains in energy companies.

Exxon Mobil rose 1.5 percent after its earnings came in ahead of what investors were expecting.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 67 points, or 0.4 percent, at 17,232 as of 11:55 a.m. Eastern time Monday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 12 points, or 0.6 percent, to 2,006. The Nasdaq composite rose 14 points, or 0.3 percent, to 4,646.

The gains were broad. All 10 sectors in the S&P 500 index rose. Energy stocks increased the most, 2 percent.

The price of crude oil rose 94 cents to $49.18 a barrel. Crude had surged on Friday on expectations of lower supplies.
