The San Jose Earthquakes rolled to a third straight win on Saturday, topping Chivas USA 2-0 at The Home Depot Center to extend their lead in the chase for the MLS Supporters' Shield.

Chris Wondolowski scored the opening goal and set up Alan Gordon in the second half to double the lead, powering San Jose (17-6-5) to 56 points on the season, five points clear of Sporting Kansas City in the overall MLS table.

Chivas (7-13-7) is now winless in seven games, dropping into a tie with the Portland Timbers for last place in the West with 28 points.

The 'Quakes took the lead in the 40th minute when John Valencia committed an off-the-ball foul in the box, gifting the visitors a penalty kick. Wondolowski stepped up and calmly slotted home the ensuing kick for his 19th goal of the campaign.

Wondolowski had a hand in setting up Gordon for the insurance goal in the 50th minute. Justin Morrow centered the ball to the league's leading scorer and he laid it off to Gordon to hit a first-time effort past Dan Kennedy, putting the win beyond any doubt.
