A woman gave birth to a baby boy at Petco Park in San Diego during the third inning of Thursday night’s Major League Baseball game between the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants.

It was the first birth to take place at the stadium in its 11-year history. Capt. Joe Amador of the city’s Fire-Rescue Department tells the San Diego Union-Tribune that mother and baby were taken by ambulance from the park to Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center.

"We welcomed a baby boy to the world in Palm Court Plaza earlier this evening. First baby to be born at Petco Park," park officials said on Twitter. The plaza as an area just inside one of the park's outfield entrance gates.

Amador said firefighters had been called for pregnancy medical aid, but the ballpark’s own medical system took care of the birth.

The Union-Tribune reported the boy’s name is Levi.

The Padres tweeted out that 31,137 fans enjoyed the game – not including the newborn. The Padres won the game, 5-4.
