White Sox P Danks to make first start of season

Chicago White Sox starter John Danks, who has yet to pitch this season, will return to the mound for the start Friday in his team's three-game interleague series opener versus the Miami Marlins.

The club's announcement comes nearly one year after Danks went on the 15-day disabled list on May 25, 2012. His season ended with arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder.

Danks made four rehab starts, including three for Triple-A Charlotte this season, in which he had a 3.18 earned run average with 15 strikeouts over 22 2/3 innings.

The 28-year-old lefty has a career 4.12 ERA with a record of 57-60 in 159 starts over six seasons, all with the White Sox.

Chicago opened a roster spot Thursday by optioning pitcher Donnie Veal to Charlotte.
