Manchester, England – Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has committed his future to the club by signing a new four-year contract with Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
Welbeck has been in talks with the club over a new deal for a few months, but the arrival of striker Robin van Persie this summer cast doubt about his chances at seeing regular first-team action.
However, the 21-year-old has opted to remain at Old Trafford for a further four seasons, much to the delight of his manager.
"Danny has been with the club since he was eight years old and has made fantastic progress in the last couple of years, first out on loan and last year as a regular in the first team," Ferguson told the club's official website.
"He has become an important player at the international level as well, as the maturity of his performances at the European Championships showed. This year is another important one for him. He has a bright future ahead of him."
Welbeck was a key piece for United last season, scoring nine goals in 30 games while also establishing himself in the England national team.
