U.S. turns to Miller vs. Slovenia

Sochi, Russia (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Miller will get his first start of the Sochi Olympics for Team USA on Sunday.

Miller will get the call against 1-1 Slovenia after Jonathan Quick started the first two games for the U.S. The 33-year-old Miller went 5-1 with a 1.35 goals-against average in helping Team USA to a silver medal four years ago in Vancouver.

Miller was named the most valuable player of the 2010 Olympic tournament, stopping 36-of-39 shots in the gold medal game against Canada, but couldn't prevent Sidney Crosby from tallying the game-winner in overtime of a 3-2 triumph for the Canadians.

Despite Miller's experience, coach Dan Bylsma and Team USA had Quick in net for wins over Slovakia and Russia in Sochi. Quick made 22 saves in a 7-1 rout of Slovakia, then posted 29 saves through overtime of Saturday's 3-2 shootout win over Russia. He made five saves on eight attempts in the tiebreaker before T.J. Oshie finally ended things with his fourth shootout goal of the contest in the eighth round.

Quick, 28, is 16-13-2 with a 2.18 GAA and .911 save percentage in 32 games for the Los Angeles Kings this season. Miller is 14-22-3 with a 2.74 GAA and .923 save percentage in 39 tests for the lowly Sabres in 2013-14.
