"He has a high ankle sprain, we have put him through very aggressive treatment, even putting him in hard cast," Tomlin told reporters.

Pouncey, who was injured in the AFC Championship game against the New York Jets, walked with crutches as he left the team's airplane upon landing in Texas on Monday.

"I don't know what his chances are. He is not on a running clock in my mind until Wednesday. We will give him every opportunity to take part in the game and remain hopeful," Tomlin said.

Pouncey has played in every game this season and received a Pro Bowl selection as reward for his performances with the AFC North champions.

Tomlin said if Pouncey is unable to play Doug Legursky will start in his role.

"If Maurkice can't go, Doug will be on center. It will be old hat for him. He competes - he is mentally and physically tough. We are comfortable if we have to go in that direction."
