Tag Ridings and Brendan Steele survived surprisingly cold conditions and a typically tough course at Innisbrook.

Temperatures were in the lower 50s on Thursday morning, and it felt even colder in a strong wind. Ridings and Steele each managed a 3-under 68 to share the lead among the early starters in the opening round of the Tampa Bay Championship.

Defending champion Luke Donald was kicking himself. He was 4-under for the round until dropping three shots on the last four holes for a 70. Even so, only 10 others from the 78 players who teed off in the morning broke par.

Past champions Vijay Singh and K.J. Choi were among those at 69, while Ryo Ishikawa was at 71.
